The Days We Found

This photograph was taken at the end of a day spent driving through the quiet farmland of rural Canada - a landscape steeped in simplicity, tradition, and an enduring connection to the land. As the sun began to set, I stopped by a small lake and watched the light catch on the surface, illuminating a wooden pier. The scene felt suspended in time - still and almost reverent - yet full of echoes: the laughter of children jumping into the water, the quiet conversation of couples at dusk, the hum of long summer evenings.

The image became a meditation on innocence and memory - on how ordinary places hold the imprints of lives lived fully but simply. It recalls a gentler rhythm, where contentment was found in the unremarkable beauty of a lake at sunset, and in the fleeting moments that quietly endure.

Being selected for the Royal Hibernian Academy (RHA) Annual Exhibition is a real milestone for any artist. It’s one of the most respected and competitive open calls in Ireland, showcasing the breadth of contemporary Irish art across every discipline. Thousands of submissions are reviewed by a panel of artists and curators, and only a small number make it through to the final exhibition. To have work accepted is both humbling and affirming - a reminder of the privilege it is to create and to have that work recognised among so many talented peers.
